Fundacion Sansó is dedicated to preserving the artistic legacy of Juvenal Sansó, one of the Philippines’ foremost artists. As part of its ongoing mission to honor his legacy, the museum focuses on nurturing a broader appreciation of the arts and supporting the development of contemporary Filipino artists. The projects and events initiated by Fundacion Sansó not only further its mandate, but also contribute to sustaining its programming and advancing its goals.
Here’s a closer look at the significant initiatives Fundacion Sansó has rolled out in 2024, along with its vision for 2025.
2024 Projects and Initiatives
Continuation of Artists’ Estates Initiative
A pivotal development in 2024 has been the expansion of Fundacion Sansó’s initiative aimed at preserving the legacies of renowned Filipino artists. The artists’ estates program has now grown to include National Artists Larry Alcala, Jerry Elizalde Navarro, and Federico Aguilar Alcuaz, in addition to honoring the estates of National Artist Abdulmari Imao and sculptor Inday Cadapan.
Fundacion Sansó has also strengthened its ties with the Amorsolo Foundation through its collaboration with the Eleuterio “Teyet” Pascual estate, represented by the Rising Sunday Foundation.
This project not only sustains the memory of these remarkable artists, but also ensures their works and contributions are preserved for future generations.
Magnanimous Reciprocity
The Magnanimous Reciprocity exhibition sheds light on Juvenal Sansó's role as a benefactor for the arts, showcasing his advocacy for young artists and his generous donations to institutions like the Lopez Museum and Fundacion Sansó.
The exhibit also highlighted the reciprocation from generous donors, including Jack Teotico, Eliot Maguan, Raffy Simpao, and Annatha Lilo Guttierez, who have donated artworks in the past few years. The donations continue to enrich the museum collection, allowing it to expand its offerings to the public. This act of reciprocity honors the spirit of generosity that Sansó has embodied throughout his career.
MBrace and Art for Love Projects
Fundacion Sansó’s commitment to social responsibility is evident in its support for children undergoing cancer treatment at the National Children’s Hospital. Through the MBrace Project and the Art for Love Project, Fundacion Sansó provided financial aid.
They also organized a special exhibition participated in by talented young artists who are dealing with cancer or disability. The exhibition at The Podium’s Book Nook, supported by SM Cares and local collaborators, not only gives back to the community, but also highlights the therapeutic power of art for children facing health challenges.
Scholarships and Donations
Fundacion Sansó has made a significant impact on education through its financial support. The foundation donated ₱1 million to the University of the Philippines Diliman College of Fine Arts for its student scholarship program, helping nurture the next generation of artists. In addition, it contributed over ₱3 million to the Angat Buhay Foundation for the Angat Sining Program, in collaboration with the Imao Family.
These donations underscore Fundacion Sansó’s ongoing commitment to empowering young artists and enabling them to pursue their passion for the arts.
Vision for 2025
Publication of Sansó: Prized and Personal
In May 2025, Fundacion Sansó will launch Sansó: Prized and Personal, a publication that delves into the motivations of collectors who appreciate and acquire Sansó’s works. The book will make over 300 artworks accessible to the public, offering a deeper understanding of the artist’s legacy and the personal connections people have with his creations.
Launch of Making Prints with Sansó
To foster creativity in younger audiences, Fundacion Sansó is preparing to launch Making Prints with Sansó, a children’s book that comes with a printmaking kit. This interactive book will encourage both parents and children to explore the world of art through the process of printmaking.
Museum Expansion and New Exhibition Spaces
Fundacion Sansó also plans to expand its museum and museum shop, providing more space for exhibitions and showcasing artworks from scholars and partner artists.
With exciting plans for 2025, Fundacion Sansó continues to strengthen its position as a leading institution in the Philippine arts scene, ensuring that both past and present artists are celebrated and supported for years to come.
