With the new year just around the corner, it’s time to reflect on the fast-paced journey that was 2024. From daily life to professional milestones, this year has been filled with achievements and pivotal moments, and the new year offers a chance to pause and reminisce.

In light of this, we sat down with two self-taught visual artists—Qwark and Isad Diwa—to learn more about their plans and aspirations for 2025.

A Glimpse of What’s to Come

Both artists, represented by Village Art Gallery, have showcased their distinct styles and exceptional work throughout 2024. For them, this year has been but a preview of what’s to come in the new year.

Isad emphasized that while he will continue building on the work he began this year, he is also committed to exploring and refining his craft. His goal is not only to evolve as an artist but also to grow as an individual.

For Qwark, 2024 served as a stepping stone. Drawing on the pieces he began this year, he plans to carefully introduce his audience to the intricate world he has spent years developing. “My last series were just glimpses, like a trailer to a film,” Qwark shared.

While the year may change, two things remain constant in their art: identity and values.

Qwark’s work will continue to embody the essential values he holds dear—both for himself and his audience. Meanwhile, Isad’s character, Rio Mysterio, will remain an integral part of his creations, awaiting new stories and adventures.

The “Plot Twist”

When asked about their biggest plot twist of 2024, Qwark revealed that the entire year felt like a plot twist in itself. Describing it as a ride through turbulent waves, he reflected on his journey with a sense of excitement.

“The best part was migrating to Yerong Studio with Blic, Mimaaaaaaaaw, and the rest of the crew. It’s where I worked on my ManilArt showpieces. Best five months of my life,” Qwark said, reminiscing fondly.

For Isad, the highlight of the year was his inclusion in Art+ magazine’s 94th issue, a milestone he calls his biggest plot twist as the year draws to a close.

Embracing Inevitable Change

Change is inevitable, and both artists are prepared to embrace it.

Qwark shared that he plans to improve his art by returning to the basics—focusing on fundamentals through study and practice. For Isad, his focus is on being more visionary, drawing inspiration from personal experiences and the world around him.

“I want to experience more of the world and create art that reflects how I see and understand it,” Isad explained.

As we wrapped up our conversation with Qwark and Isad, they shared their personal mantras for the coming year:

Qwark: DON’T SKIP LEG DAY.

Isad: Stay focused.
